Holstein Mare Lines (Holsteiner Stutenstamme)
For many decades, Holstein has delivered highly successful horses for breeding and sport. This didnt just happen by chance, but has been the result of methodically bred mare lines and the knowledgeable experience of the breeders over many years. The knowledge of the mare lines is therefore essential.
In its first two editions, Holstein Mare Lines was extremely well received and it was soon out of stock; therefore a new edition became necessary.
This current 3rd Edition is conceived as a reference book. The extensive photo material contains 90 colour photos and 60 historical black and white photos, with many never-seen-before, unpublished photos of stallion mothers and the mothers of internationally successful horses.
All stallions and international sport horses were assigned to mare lines. All available information, inland and abroad, was incorporated in this edition. The Holstein mare lines are indicated from the numbers 4 to 8900 and contain their own respective licensed stallions, whereas the champions of the stallion licensing and the winner of the stallion performance test are clearly identified. 87 mare lines are represented with full-page genealogical family trees and from those trees emerge the lines from which the licensed stallions originate.
Holstein Mare Lines, 3rd Edition is an absolute must for the people who concern themselves with the genetic connections to the Holstein breed.
Holstein Stallion Lines Vol. I II & III all come with English TRANSLATION supplement.
The English text supplements do not contain photographs, statistics, or the graphical stallion lines, these are in the German edition and the price includes both the German edition and the translation supplement.
The horse breeding country of Holstein has noticeably outperformed all other German breeding areas with international show jumpers in the last decades. At the same time, it can be noted that the Holstein breeders achieved this worldwide success with a relatively small mare base. There is more: the quality is so high that all other German and foreign breeders have clearly profited from Holstein. A look at the pedigrees makes it particularly clear: the breeders, who busy themselves with the breeding of show jumpers, need to begin with the Holstein gene. The predominant position of the Holstein breed is clear, nationally and internationally. Holstein has proportionally placed the highest ratio of show jumpers at the German National Young Horse Championships for many years.
This first volume of Holstein Stallion Lines concerns itself with the stallion line of Cottage Son xx. The books release coincides to a point in time, which couldnt have been more fitting: shortly before its circulation date, the grey Holstein stallions Cumano and Caspar (alias Berlin), both sons of Cassini I, won the individual and team classifications at the World Championships in Aachen, Germany.
This line is especially meaningful because in the middle of the 1980s, the Cottage Son xx sire line had almost died out. In Holstein, Capitol I was the sole heir of the Cottage Son xx line, and he was not easy to pair. Using a special breeding remedy designed by the Holstein Association specifically for this stallion, the genetic constitution of the Cottage Son xx line has been preserved and is readily available today in very large quantities.
The second volume of Holstein Stallion Lines concerns itself with the comparatively young line of Cor de la Bryère. In the beginning of the 1970s, Cor de la Bryère was discovered in France. Once in Holstein, he transformed the horse breeding business in Schleswig-Holstein, then stepped out from the land between the seas triumphantly advancing around the world. With resounding hereditary transmission in rideability, form, light-footedness, technique and bascule, he helped the Holstein breed internationally to more importance. His offspring have gained international influence and have shaped all German horse breeds. With the stallions Caletto I, II, and III, and Calypso I through V, Cor de la Bryère has produced meaningful brother dynasties, which have stood the test of time in sport and in breeding. The licensed stallions Corrado I with Franke Sloothaak (German champion 1994) and Cordalmé Z with Gilbert Boeckmann (2nd in the German Classics 1994) have nationally and internationally aroused sensation in the show jumping business. Corlandus was the most successful dressage horse by Cor de la Bryère. He was always a medalist at international championships with Margit Otto-Crépin in the 1980s. In eventing, the hard-hitting chestnut Contrast, then Cordeka, the full sister to the Caletto brothers, became internationally famous with Herbert Bloecker.
This third volume of Holstein Stallion Lines concerns itself with the high performance line of Ladykiller xx, which was established in the middle of the 60s. Ladykiller xx was just an average race horse, yet delivered the proof that racing performance only plays a peripheral role in the transmission qualities for the riding horse breed because, from the many thoroughbreds used during the 60s and early 70s in Holstein, he emerged as the best by far. His most well-known stallion sons, Landgraf I and Lord, founded two large branches of this line. Today in Holstein, its considered standard that a horse exhibits Ladykiller xx blood at least two or three times in its pedigree. One of Holstein's secrets to success has always been a certain degree of inbreeding for as far back as anyone can remember
Each licensed stallion is detailed and comes with standardized data regarding color, descent, height at the withers, personal sports contribution, and location and length of specified cover time, whether he has a Holstein brand or is branded by another breeding organization, and whether he comes from Holstein mare lines. Further stallion sons from other breeds, which are not from Holstein mare lines, are listed under their respective sire in order to ensure an accurate overview of them too.
The features of this book include comprehensive illustrations and photographs. For most of the stallions, even in foreign possession, photo material has been obtained, which has historical value and has been published for the first time. The diagrams of the individual branches of this line were created by Juergen Passig and give this book a particularly valuable dimension.
